Atlas Soared...

atlasBWprofileRain I shot that a couple days after this years Sand Scultping Festival at Revere Beach. It was my favorite this year, and the details were so incredible. The day before we had torrential rains for quite some time. You can see that the driven rain beat heavily on the forehead of the scultpure, as if it were working into his mind. Like the lyric from the Make Me Fall video above...So, I'll keep running into the rain...Heart first, Head second, time I'll wait.
I did all of the editing in PicMonkey too, and it was quite simple. I first added some saturation and warmed the temperature in the Color Portion of the Basic edits, and then I used the Newspaper Effect in their new School U theme. That effect is a wonderful conversion that has some great contrast, and produces a nice dark sky form the original blue. I did a small series of them too...

...the color one was photographed on the day of competition, and before the rains came down. When you compare them, you will see how the pose of the sculpture helped to protect portions of it too. His forearm is scarred much morethan the tiles he is displaying. Those did, and still do, look just like jewel cases for CDs to me. The sculptor of that piece is Dan Belcher, of St. Louis, Missori. It came in second place, but to me it was definitely the winner. Atlas knew the rains were coming, and his creator positioned him perfectly to bear the brunt of the storm.

The winning entry this year was from Jonathan Bouchard, of Montreal, Canada. He again created such detail and texture...
